The streets of Bangladesh live with fervor this present of the Argentine team in the World Cup in Qatar 2022. Although the matches of those led by Lionel Scaloni are at dawn there (they are three hours more than Doha, nine of difference with our country), Thousands of supporters flock to each of the country's eight districts to cheer for Lionel Messi and company.

In the "Something to Say" program, we chatted with Abdullah Riyad, a professor of Spanish at the University of Dhaka, the capital of Bangladesh, to understand the incalculable passion of millions of fans of the Argentine team:

“It's crazy here in Bangladesh. There are fans of the Argentine team who celebrate in the streets of Dhaka and throughout the country, there are always people celebrating.”

Abdullah also told us about his day-to-day life in the country to the east of India, whose independence was recognized just over five decades ago, in 1971:

“I am an English student, as well as teaching languages. But when I was little, I fell in love with the culture of Spain. I had the opportunity to study it at the University and I went to Galicia to study. I work as a teacher here for beginners, I really like the culture of Latin America.”

In addition to the fanaticism for Messi and the national team, the most popular sport in this country is cricket, which has the same passion as football:

“Bangladesh is a very green country, it rains a lot and it is characteristic of the place, I love it. The most popular sport is cricket, but outside the capital the fans for football are very big.”

Finally, he wished the best for the Argentine national team, a team of which his father is a fan, and is looking forward to the duel against Croatia, which will define a place in the World Cup final.
